“Now, perhaps more than ever before, Texas needs qualified individuals in the House of Representatives who have a proven record of protecting patients,” said Dr. Lloyd Van Winkle, M.D., TAFPPAC chairman. “Family physicians are supporting Tracy King because he will fight for affordable, quality health care that is accessible to all Texas families.”

During his tenure in the Texas House of Representatives, Rep. King:

Protected Texas’ Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program;

Fought for affordable health insurance for individuals and small businesses;

Strengthened our public health safety net through initiatives to improve childhood immunization rates and address Texas’ childhood obesity epidemic; and

Supported sweeping patients’ rights reforms, including protecting patients and health care professionals from abusive tactics of HMOs.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of such a well-respected organization,” King said. “I look forward to continuing our efforts to improve patient care and health services to all Texans.”

“The spirited debate on health care funding and access to affordable health care coverage will continue into the next legislative session and much is at stake for our patients,” Van Winkle said. “Tracy King will ensure our health care dollars are spent efficiently and will be a steadfast advocate for our patients.”

The Texas Academy of Family Physicians, the state’s largest medical specialty organization representing more than 7,000 family physicians, residents, and medical students, promotes and assures the maintenance of high-quality health care. We provide our members with a unified voice for family medicine and continue to be one of the most patient-oriented, public health-focused organizations in Texas.

Making the statement last week, Chairman Joe Stewart applauded King’s commitment to Texas homeowners.

“The next legislative session will be filled with difficult decisions,” said Stewart. “That’s why we need lawmakers like King who understand the critical role homeowners play in keeping our state prosperous, which is why we’ve pledged our full support.”

Texas is leading the nation’s economic recovery, due in large part to its strong real estate market. To maintain that momentum, Texas’ lawmakers must understand homeowners’ concerns and act to bolster homeownership in the state and supporting those efforts is the association’s top priority this election season. As a member of the Texas House for more than seven years, Tracy King has been involved in the political process at all levels, promoting policies and supporting initiatives in the best interests of property rights and homeownership throughout the state.

“I am honored to have the endorsement of the Texas Association of Realtors,” King said. “As small business owners, Texas Realtors make the dream of homeownership more affordable for all Texans and I will strive to help support this important goal.”

As one of the largest and most influential trade associations in the state, the Texas Association of Realtors expects to be a considerable grassroots force for Tracy King.

Texas Realtors have championed a number of legislative issues enhancing the lives of Texans, such as urging reforms to the property appraisal system in 2011 and 2009, preventing a tax of $600 or more on the personal vehicles of independent Texans in 2007 and advocating for billions in property tax reductions in 2005. To learn more about Texas Realtors’ legislative advocacy on behalf of its members and homeowners, visit TexasRealEstate.com.

About the Texas Association of REALTORS®

With approximately 80,000 members, the Texas Association of REALTORS® is a professional membership organization that represents all aspects of real estate in Texas. We advocate on behalf of Texas REALTORS® and private-property owners to keep homeownership affordable, protect private-property rights, and promote public policies that benefit homeowners.

AUSTIN, Texas – Representative Tracy O. King has joined Texas Commissioner of Agriculture Todd Staples in support of the Texas Water Smart Coalition, which is comprised of businesses, trade associations, cities, water suppliers and elected officials who are committed to promoting water conservation in Texas.

The unprecedented drought and heat have brought many challenges to the people of Texas. The implementation of water use restrictions specifically have severely impacted families and businesses. The widespread hardship has led to the creation of this new partnership focused on meeting Texas’ water needs today and into the future.

“This is a good step towards changing our mind set about water,” said Rep. King. “By educating ourselves and implementing some simple techniques, we can conserve water and continue exploring better habits for more water tomorrow.”

Texas Water Smart is a comprehensive consumer education initiative with goals to employ television, radio and print ads, social media and other targeted awareness tools to show Texans easy and practical ways to conserve. The Water Smart message is unique because it promotes easy techniques that are proven to be effective in conserving water while maintaining landscaping.

The monument honors the many contributions of Tejanos to the Lone Star State.

“Any time school children come and see that monument, they will know the State of Texas has a much longer history than is traditionally taught and the Tejanos played a great role in the history of the State of Texas,” Rep. King said at the ceremony.

The Mission of the Tejano Monument is to emplace a monument on the Texas Capitol grounds to establish an enduring legacy that acknowledges and pays tribute to the contributions by Tejanos as permanent testimony of the Spanish-Mexican heritage that has influenced and is inherent in present-day Texas culture.

“I want to congratulate Armando Hinojosa, from Laredo, on his great work and for creating such a powerful sculpture for everyone to enjoy for generations,” Rep. King said.

The 525 square foot monument, located at the southeast corner of the Capitol grounds, portrays a Spanish explorer, a vaquero on his mustang, a longhorn bull and cow, and a family of settlers. The bronze statues are mounted on a 250-ton piece of pink granite.

The Friend of Rural Water Award is the association’s highest honor, which is given to people who have gone out of their way to preserve the way of life in rural Texas and protect Texas’ water resources. As Vice Chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee, Representative King played an integral part in the association’s efforts to protect the environment during the 82nd Session of the Texas Legislature.

AUSTIN, Texas – State Representative Tracy O. King (D-Batesville), along with other members of the Culture, Recreation and Tourism Committee, heard testimony Tuesday on the effects of the drought and wildfires on Texas tourism and state parks.

“The recent wildfires and ongoing drought have had a devastating impact statewide,” said Rep. King. “Our state park system in particular has seen the results of these harsh conditions. We must do everything possible to maintain our State Parks for current and future generations.”

State Climatologist John W. Nielsen-Gammon provided information to committee members showing that the 2011 Texas drought has been unprecedented in its intensity. With boat ramp closures, low water levels and high temperatures, tourists aren’t frequenting Texas State Parks like they have in the past.

Carter Smith, executive director of Texas Parks and Wildlife, testified that parks have seen an 8.4 percent decline in revenue from visitors in the first quarter of the 2012 fiscal year. The lack of visitors is especially costly because 55 percent of park funding comes from visitor fees.

Members also learned how much recent wildfires have damaged state parks. Texas’ 94 state parks and historic sites experienced 10 to 11 million dollars in damages due to wildfires in 2011 Smith told committee members.
